Context
The Employer’s Resource Handbook is a guide to help employers understand and accommodate students with disabilities. As the graphic designer, I worked closely with my supervisor to create graphics and the layout for the handbook.
Process
01 Planning
I considered different existing elements of the handbook, including infographics and icons, to determine a cohesive color palette for the handbook.
I brainstormed different infographic styles as templates for different layouts that can convey information best.
02 Graphics
For each section, I created graphics to illustrate the differences and needs of people who require accessibility. The graphic of three people of different heights and accessibility needs staring out of a window showcases the difference between equality, accommodation, and accessibility.
The graphics of shapes going through different holes are at the start of each section, showing how not every solution is a ‘one-size-fits-all’, and we have to carefully consider the needs of the people we are working with.
03 Layout
Based on the provided text, I added links to connect the reader with other resources, such as the glossary for accessibility terms. I organized the structure of each page and added infographics to deliver information in a more digestible format.
04 Successes + Insights
Working on the Employer Resource Handbook granted me a lot of insight for people with disabilities and how to accommodate them. I enjoyed my work immensely and it was a project organized important information for employers who hire my peers who needed understanding how to best accommodate them in the work place.
