Context

The DSBIA helps small businesses in Downtown Surrey flourish by helping the community through events and promoting them through newsletters and social media. As the Graphic and Web Designer, my main tasks are formatting the layout for their July-September monthly newsletter, updating their website, and creating logos and other graphics according to the company’s needs.

Projects

01 The New View

The New View promotes company events, the latest interns, projects, and various things happening in the community. Using the provided photos and articles, I arranged their layout and used the company’s color palette to keep the branding consistent.

As the graphic designer, I also designed headers for the newsletter as well as advertisements to be placed at the bottom of the pages.

02 Open With Care

Open With Care is a campaign during the pandemic to help small businesses open with all the safety precautions in mind. I created the logo that was used in:

  • Social media promotion
  • Fliers
  • Stickers used for the contest
  • Event t-shirts.

    03 Explore the George

Explore the George is a video series where my partner and I interviewed local businesses about their practices and promote them. We set up cameras and prepared interview questions for the owners, and I made thumbnails and transitions during the post-production process.

    04 Successes + Insights

The DSBIA was my first opportunity working as a Graphic Designer in a professional and team setting. I learned a lot about communicating in a team and managing different projects at the same time. It has also taught me a lot about how to use design in different mediums such as for social media, newsletters, youtube thumbnails, and so on.
